[filmscanners] Vuescan clipping

I really like using vuescan with my LS 2000, particularly because of the film
terms and resulting colors. But, have such a problem with highlight clipping
that I rarely use the program. No matter how I set the auto/manual settings,
or adjust the settings under exposure lock, it always clips. I would think
that lowering the RGB exposure would bring this under control, but it seems
to make no difference. However, I can increase the RGB exposure and get some
colors to clip more, but not all; the image becomes lighter and more blue.
The only way I can control the clipping is to adjust the crop box to include
a higher proportion of highlight areas, then the clipping is reduced. This
leads me to believe that some automatic feature is working to always cause at
least a minimum amount of clipping to occur, no matter what the exposure is
set at.

Can anyone help?

My setup is: NS 2.5 Firmware1.31, windows 98se, PS 5.5, Vuescan 7.3.10
Media type:slide film
48 bit
Auto Scan: none
Color: neutral, (or None)
White point: 0%
Brigntness: all 1
Film Type: Kodak, Kodachrome K-14
