Phew, I thought a feature had escaped my attention.

No, the Advance Color settings have no effect on the "default" scan.  The
whole of that page is for "post processing", e.g. if you press the "auto
levels" button (the half-black, half-white button) it takes your white point
and black point target values and then uses the percentages excluded in the
Black and White boxes to determine how hard to clip.

The Sample point size is for when you run your mouse over the image.
