Thanks for the tip. Is there any way to control the use of GEM separately
from the scratch removal modes?

Nikon Scan 3.0 offers the following choices:

Digital ICE   : off/ on (normal) / on (fine)
Digital ROC  : (values 0 > 10)
Digital GEM :  (values 0 > 4)
