Following up on this and Laurie's last note -- it may be best to uninstall both
Insight and Vuescan (make sure you write down your Vuescan registration
number).  Then reinstall Vuescan and see if it works OK.  If it does, you can
either let it be or reinstall Insight and see if your troubles begin anew.

Don't just delete the programs, use the Control Panel to make sure all the
components are removed.

FWIW, I had both programs installed without incident but I have a SCSI card. If
the scanner uses USB 2.0, you may not notice any difference in times between
firewire and USB. It may not matter with USB 1.0 either, depending on the speed
of the scanner.
