How does one diagnose the hardware? The Firewire cards (I have 2)are running
as 'plug n play' and I have absolutely no problem with other firewire devices
on my system which includes 2 firewire external hard drives, an Epson 2200 on
firewire, and the SS4000+ scanner with the Polaroid Insight software.

Just curious though, do you think that Vuescan and/or Silverfast would improve
the scans in any way compared with the Insight software and doing tonal and
color corrections in Photoshop?
