For the Nikon 4000ED scanner, is there a way around this by either
brightening the image (and later adjusting back) or even reducing the
blue light exposure channel? Would anything else besides the two-scan
approach you suggest affect this problem?  I'm particularly concerned
about scanning images with lots of blue sky in them.
