[filmscanners] Re: Cleaning your monitor...

Wow! i seem to have strated quite a thread... funny actually, judging from
the responses, how many of us are actually concerned about this but haven't
got around to voicing our fears... anyway, these are the conclusions i've
drawn from the sum tottal of responses to date:

1/ Use distilled or de-mineralised water.

2/ Use a mild and diluted hand/face soap or a photographic lens cleaning
fluid. (Don't use contact-lens cleaning fluids as they may destroy the
coating. Reason... solvents or whatever that are meant to remove protein,
etc. from contact lenses.)

3/ Use either a soft pure cotton cloth... old, well used t-shirt,
handkerchief, etc... Or use soft tissue paper such as Kleenex or lens
cleaning tissues from *reputable* manucturers.

4/ Don't over clean as each cleaning increases the chances of scratches and
destruction of the monitor surface/coating.

Preventions:

1/ Keep monitor covered when not in use. I on't and cn't unles i'm away for
a while but still... seems logical. (Prrobably best to use a cotton cover
that cn be washed. Plastic would generate static which in turn would attract
dust... that's my take on the material to be used as the dust cover.)

2/ STOP those greasy fingers from touching the screen... that drives me
crazy... but a couple of smart whacks on friends and family's wrists have
put paid to that... and i have no hassle at screaming STOP! at a client if i
see him/her reaching toward the screen! Actually what i sometimes do with an
inveterate 'monitor-toucher' is roll up a sheet of A4 into a thin tube and
hand it to him/hr to use as a pointer. Works remarkably effectively:)

Anything left out?

Cheers....
