Not sure about compression using ASR. I didn't compress mine.

You don't need the CD's or DVD's to be bootable, because your original XP CD
is bootable and one of its first questions is do you want to do an Automatic
System Restore, to which you say yes and it asks you for your CD's and the
floppy (it makes one floppy of your partition info).

Oh really ? I didn't know that. Great.
However I already installed and did GHOST backup (took 4 CDs).
Do this Automated System Recovery compress the HDD image prior to burning to
the media or this is done as it is ?

BTW, does it create your backup DVD-RAM as bootable ? (and in this case your
BIOS should support
your DVD drive as one of the bootable devices available in your system)
