[filmscanners] RE: Slightly, somewhat OT

Oh really ? I didn't know that. Great.
However I already installed and did GHOST backup (took 4 CDs).
Do this Automated System Recovery compress the HDD image prior to burning to
the media or this is done as it is ?

BTW, does it create your backup DVD-RAM as bootable ? (and in this case your
BIOS should support
your DVD drive as one of the bootable devices available in your system)

Regards,
Alex Z

Alex,

If you have XP Pro, you don't need any special software to backup
everything; it is built into the XP Backup routine. Just select Automated
System Recovery and everything on your computer (including partition data)
is backed up to the place of your choice. I use DVD-RAM for these backups.

In any case, without any relation to the backup device choice, I would
recommend to use GHOST software which is the perfect system working-ready
backup software. It is especially invented to allow to the user to backup
his whole HDD including everything he has on it and in the case of HDD
failure you can easily replicate all you had on your new HDD with any need
for reinstallation. All your setups, software, anything is recovered exactly
as it was during the GHOST HDD image creation.
