Hi,

So, my HP Photosmart is a consumer grade product, but I
have problems with the "arcane" concept. What makes it
"arcane". Is the scanner so primitive as to be worthless?
What are the many "problems". I would like to know what to
look out for.
        Thanks.

Well, I won't argue that it was definitely "consumer" but I
would use ubiquitous more than arcane in its description.
I'd bet more of these HP Photosmart film scanners were sold
that any other made since, in spite of the many problems
with them.<<
