Re: filmscanners: Re: Further report on dust removal problem in LS4000/MiKael,David, Roger

Using Ls 4000 with dirty film
To Barbara and Martin
My suggestion is:
Download the demo or buy Silverfast software. Easiest way to use
Silverfast with dirty film is auto sharpening settings together with the
cleaning settings. Import end is that you choose and set
your size of the picture first = example in cm. 30 x 40 cm and 300 ppi.
Silverfast cleaning function and sharpening function are now producing a
100% good picture regarding sharpness and a picture free from dirt.
( If your settings in Silverfast are 100% of the film and 4000 ppi the
sharpening program have some bugs and the sharpening factor is to high )
You can also set your own USM + cleaning factor so its suits your pictures
regarding sharpness with out loosing any details..
LS 4000 is a good scanner and you have also the choice to try Vuescan
software with the scanner

Im producing pictures everyday to medical companies and magazines . Im
using only the manual film holder to LS4000. Quick and easy and time saving.
(no motor who are dragging the film in and out )
All ways working with the cleaning function on. No time spending after work
with the cloning tool in Photoshop.

Polaroid ss 4000 is a good scanner but little bit old in many ways. My
suggestion is :Stay with your Nikon scanner and try out Silverfast or
Vuescan
Hope you understand my Swenglish
