That was kind of the point. Repro houses which want to play Canute have every 
reason to make life impossible, and are perfectly placed to trash scans then 
blame the technology, and/or the photographer. Design and production editorial 
staff are inclined to take this at face value if they don't know any better.

AIUI there is a problem with older, closed systems, as they don't usually have 
any way to input 'foreign' scans, don't understand ICC/ICM etc.
