[filmscanners] RE: Old Polaroid 4000

Sorry about the blank reply.

I don't know this scanner bit I think all scanners are similar in this. The
slide holder is probably driven by a rack-and-pinion
system. Check this very carefully for stray bits or wear.

Original Message

Hi,

I've been using my Polaroid SS4000 for some time and have noticed a problem
which has increased with time. Scanning negatives has always worked well,
but occasionally (now nearly all the time) I have a problem with the slide
holder binding (or something). That is, when I turn on the scanner, I can
get one or two scans done, but then I will get an error message telling me
that there is something blocking the movement of the film holder. Of
course, there isn't, and when I try to work with it, I can move it, but it
is clearly binding, being hindered in travel by some aspect of the scanner.

I measured the dimensions of the film holder for slides and it is very
definitely larger than the negative holder. But at one time I had little
problem with either slides or negatives.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Brad
