This might be considered non-standard. You should convert to just Adobe
RGB(1998). Evidently there are some minor differences but I have never
really had specific ones pointed out to me.

I also think it may prove to be a foolish move on your part to convert
your archived iamges to 8 bit. If you really are looking to archive
images it might make more sense to scan them as NEF (Nikon RAW) files
and archive those original scans. A NEF file is smallerthan a TIFF file
and has more info.
