Boy, that "sentence" got scrambled...  it should read:

Further, not having a copyright notice within the image, so the image
can be separated from the notice, doesn't help your case. After the
first theft, the image gets separated from its ownership, making it
both harder to control and prove ownership, and also leaving any parties
who never saw the copyright notice with a somewhat less ethical if not
legal responsibility to recognize the image as being copyrighted.
