There are two basic types of air compressors, ones that use oil in the
pistons and ones that don't. I have had a bad experience in the past when
trace amounts of this oil were blown onto a negative and several years later
it developed spots there. Now I use a medical, or breathing, compressor.
It is designed for breathing. It puts out 40lb which is perfect for
negatives and slides. I use a foot pedal to turn it on momentarily. It
works perfect. I got it at a thrift store for $5. For a nozzle, I use one
that came with the old "Dust-off" cans they used to sell at camera stores.
