[filmscanners] RE: Cleaning the SS4000--more questions--broken wire

Stan,

All of the connectors that I saw in my SS4k were friction retention
types - they all can be pulled apart without needing to be unlatched in
any fashion. Some of the connectors require considerable force to
disconnect (the power supply connectors in particular). The wires from
the top cover (on/off switch, LED's, and front gate sensors) can all be
disconnected to get the cover away from the rest of the chassis. If you
want to operate the scanner with the top cover off, it's probably best
to unscrew the switch board and the sensor assembly from the cover and
reconnect them dangling off to the side.

Subject: [filmscanners] Cleaning the SS4000--more questions--broken wire

I tried cleaning my SS4000 a few months ago without any problem though I
can't say it seemed to scan any better. I thought I would check it again
today.

I opened it up today. I set the cover to one side but managed to pull
one of the wires off the small board by the upper door sensor inside the
cover.

I was able to resolder the wire. However, I think the next time it would
be best to disconnect the white female connector from the scanner
chassis so I can completely set the cover aside. I wound up unscrewing
the sensor switches so I could do the soldering. I was not sure how to
remove those white plugs; do they just pull out or do they have retainer
prongs that need to be depressed or something like that? I tried pulling
but I was afraid of breaking off the whole thing.

I am surprised they didn't make the wires longer between the chassis and
the cover.

Stan
