1 GB of 266mhz DDR a 1.7Mhz  P4 and a 21 inch CRT.
It seems to do pretty good with hi-bit, full res scans, from my
Polaroid SS4000, these files are 75 MB.  It isn't uncommon
for these files to become > 200mb in photoshop with layers
and all. Of course I may not be discriminating enough and
just don't know what I'm missing.

I don't recall the word 'average' in my message. My point was,
and is, that machines that are quite capable of supporting
digital image processing are available from many vendors.
