[filmscanners] Re: Noise in scans using Canon FS4000

I am using Vuescan and FS4000. No noise problem, even on single pass scans.

Subject: [filmscanners] Noise in scans using Canon FS4000

There is a perceived problem with noise with the Canon FS4000.

I wondered if the problem was related to the scanning software as I get much
less noise with Vuescan on a Microtek Artixscan 4000T (these are frequently
perceived as having more noise than Polaroid SS4000 - perhaps its the
software not better quality control as suggested on this list).

To see my rather old test results (some of you have seen them before) see
below:

http://www.greenbank.themutual.net/artixscan4000_noise.htm

The Vuescan image has an advantage because it is much darker but it is still
significantly better when adjusted.

The Vuescan image was also generally much more accurate than the others.
Needless to say I promptly bought Vuescan.

Incidentally Vuescan is significantly improved, Silverfast has also been
improved , but the worst (in this test) Scan Wizard Pro has not changed at
all.

Any FS4000 owners tried Vuescan - I have a friend who wants a film scanner
with scratch removal, but the focussing issue (and price and grain) puts me
off suggesting a Nikon and quality control problems with the 35mm Minolta
seem all too frequent on this list.
