[filmscanners] Re: Nikon 4000ED

I have given up on batch scanning (4 slides in AS4000T) as I find I save
more time by avoiding spotting issues by only scanning 1 slide at a time.
Straight out of the box following processing a quick blast of air (from
jumber blower) and into the slide holder (slot 1). This prevents most dust
settling following inserting in the holder. Manually preview, crop, rotate
... scan whilst reading e-mails, working on other projects etc. Anytime
wasted with manual intervention is saved later when there is little dust
spotting. Overall I feel I get better scans because I take time tro adjust
the parameters and still waste less time as there is no rescans and there is
much less dust.

Dust is obviously not such a problem if you have a Nikon.

Same here. I wonder how folks scan in batches, though. I find I have
to manually adjust the crop size in VueScan for each and every frame
(auto crop never seems to get it right). Or do you just set the crop
area much larger knowing that you'll cover the image in every case and
then crop later in Photoshop?

>From what I hear, yes. Tina Manley, who loves her LS 4000 and use the
bulk feeder, swears by Gepe 7003 glassless mounts. I ordered a case
from Adorama and it _just_ arrived this morning. Even though I don't
have a Nikon 4000, I'm hoping the Gepe mounts will help keep my images
focused across the screen during slide shows (another symptom from film
curvature).
