If is is still under warranty (and I don't think even Nikon has gone to
a 30 day warranty on scanners) and being that you bought it in the
standard retail channel, it seems to me, that they should fix yours
(assuming they know how to fix it, that is)

I tend to believe that Nikon is delivering is small quantities while
working out the bugs.
