Well, OK I've got a SS4000 I like a lot. I shoot mainly slide and have all
the dynamic range I need to play with. I have to spot my scans. I would
probably do this anyway even if I had ICE, so I haven't been interested in
that feature much. I don't seem to mind going through my images pixel by
pixel. It takes longer, but it is my art after all. If I were cranking out
stuff for somebody else, I'd perhaps develop a different view.

I am very satisfied with Vuescan. Ed's work ethic and accomplishments both
shame and impress me. I can see the rationale for his recommendation of the
LS-40 for someone looking for a good scanner right now, but that wouldn't be
me. Since I'm a 35mm shooter I don't know what is likely in the next few
months to jar me from my little lily pad of satisfaction. I hope the SS4000
keeps working for a long long time.
