[filmscanners] Re: Oh no! Not another "which one should I buy"question

I am having very good luck scanning old Kodachrome (not sure if 64 or 25)
35mm slides with a Nikon 4000. I have to work to recover the color, but
Vuescan does 50% of the work for me. Some of the slides have a funny
surface--probably lacquer that has aged--and the IR does a good job of
removing it. The slides date from the 50s. I have created some very nice
10x14 prints from them that have pretty good color.

There have been lots of discussions here about the need to modify the
bulk loader for thinner slides like Kodachrome paper mounts. It's easy.

I haven't seen the Nikon 5000, but a rep at Mac World seemed to think
that there weren't many hardware changes. It wasn't clear whether he knew
this or was just saying the first thing that fell into his head.
