I've had no trouble at all getting Advansys PCI SCSI cards to work with
Mandrake (7 & 8), they just get detected and sort themselves out. Which is
just as well, given my thin Linux know-how. I'd suspect a firewire
converter is asking for trouble, though,  unless you know drivers exist. So
also is a long SCSI cable. I've never seen one >~2' and I believe length
is electrically critical.
