One or two word changes would make your statement more accurate IMHO:-

The world can be divided into three groups: (1) People who know
16-bit data is better than 8-bit data in color photographic scans. (2)
People who believe it isn't and try to persuade the folks in Group 1. (3)
People who believe it isn't and have given up on the folks in Group 1. I
vacillate between Groups 2 and 3.
