[filmscanners] RE: Noise in Polaroid SS 4000 scans

I just made some pictures on location with Fuji 160 and 400, some of the
same situation, I will scan them tomorrow. I have to look for pictures I
made on a lower speed film, or the same speed of another brand, I used
Kodak 160 NC some time ago. I will make some new scans of this film too.
I found out that scanning the same scene at 4000 dpi resulted in scans
with a little less noise and with more film grain.

Regards,

Harry

Hello Harry,

I downloaded the raw scan (office bandwidth, he he) and played a bit
with it in PS. Your uploaded images are sure low contrast, but
increasing contrast doesn't reduce the "noise", though the image is more
pleasant. I actually suspect it's grain rather than noise. Have you
tried scanning any other film? 160 is relatively low speed, and one
would expect fine grain, but I found this equation doesn't always hold
with scanners.
