[filmscanners] Re: help with opinions on film scanners -Nikon

I am very happy with Kodachrome scans on my Nikon 8000. Focus is fine, and
color is acceptable -- I do my corrections in Photoshop, so I haven't paid a
lot of attention to the Nikon software tools for color correction. The
Nikon Kodachrome compensation is certainly much better than 'generic slide'
/E6 when scanning Kodachrome. On very contrasty slides that I know I will
be manipulating for extreme contrast correction I use the 'single CCD' scan
setting and 8X scan passes for noise reduction in the shadows. Scan time
then goes way up, but the results are quite usable. The usual settings work
fine for me for most images. I don't go larger than 13x19 for prints, but
they are as usable as projection prints have been, and of course local
contrast and color correction is far more convenient in digital than
projection printing. I usually keep 35mm output to 11x14 or smaller and use
MF or LF for larger stuff.

I have noticed no relative differences in scan quality for Kodachrome vs. E6
(usually Fuji for me).

Have any of you tried scanning Kodachrome mounted 35mm slides? I was very
disappointed with my attempts using earlier Nikon coolscan models. Their
focus
system did not work correctly with the Kodachrome emulsion and the color
compensation it always chose was very far off.
