[filmscanners] RE: Suggestions for scanning 4x5 transparencies

I think that is being called these days "bitten by the global economic
gotcha." :-) Account for profits globally but design locally one market at
a time. :-)

Any guesses on how long it takes such a scanner to be released in the US
following release in Japan (based on previous experience with other Epson
products?)
<<<<<<<<<

It seems to be completely random. The Epson 950C printer was available in
Japan a year before it was released in the US, but the 2100/2200/4000 came
out at the same time worldwide (same product, _three_ model numbers<g>).
There's a 960 printer in the US but that there's a 970 that's just been
released in Japan.

I'm not completely unsympathetic to Epson's handling their Japanese product
line and US/Worldwide product lines as complete separate
systems/entities/companies. Still, for English speakers living in Japan who
prefer to work in English, it's a major disaster, since Epson won't supply
English versions of their software in Japan. The drivers will work, but
display messages, buttons, and menu text as "???".

Those of us who have bothered to learn Japanese can reboot in Japanese and
read the messages, but then Windows does all sorts of favors for you as you
type English, since it assumes you want Japanese typography standards in
your text. Ouch.
