Vuescan doesn't cost a lot, does what it's supposed to do, does it well,
and the developer offers frequent, user driven, updates rather than a
forced string of bug fixes.
Let's not carp too much if Ed decides he's not going to support some
older application or decides that a lifetime is less than 70 years.
Unless, of course, we can demonstrate that he has no bills to pay, has
more money than God, and has taken a solemn oath to provide software to
film scanners as a public charity. <grin>
