Another inexpensive option is the Minolta Scan Dual II.  At around $400 or
so, it's a very good value.  I did have to return mine for warranty repair,
but it works fine.  I would suggest buying an extended warranty with any of
these scanners.

It's scan resolution is 2880ppi, not 3600.  The Elite II should be better,
and you can get ICE, but it's more expensive.  I use the OEM software, but I
couldn't say if VueScan might be better.  I have no experience with other
scanners.
