Hi

I've the CanoScan FS-2710 and have been very pleased with it. I cant comment
on the Win2k problems nor have I heard of any myself but then I'm Mac based.
One thing I wish it had is a batch scanning facility.

I'd recommend using it with Vuescan instead of the supplied Canoscan
software especially for negs. I have a few images online if you want to see
some close-up details of its scanning capabilities with Vuescan ver6x (see
here http://homepage.eircom.net/~ricwalsh), since then the software has
moved on to ver7.5.x resulting in even better scans.
