1. I managed to solve the problem. The "lock exposure" feature was enabled. :-( 
Sorry to bother you with such trivial problems.

2. Please excuse my first postings horrible spelling. By accident I sent you 
the draft I noted down while sorting negatives and trying different VueScan 
settings. I hit the send button before taking a second look at what I had
