With the film strip holder, I'd be surprised if it could.  I'm wondering
more about the ends of strips in the film strip feeder, or plastic mounted
slides in the slide interface.  The film strip feeder does NOT hold the end
of a strip flat enough if it has significant curl, and I've often seen
noticeable focus problems on one side of a frame.
