Laurie's right on the money.  This is for color mind you...  My pro lab
"cards" them (puts each individual negative in a glassine) with the exposure
compensation information on the glassine, that information is used for
reprints.  This is mostly for wedding/portrait work.

When ordering reprints, you can select a "crop mask" which is basically
standardized offerings of different croppings.  You check that off, as well
as the number and size, right on the glassine.  It really works great for
mid to high volume reprints.
