Did the film travel as hand baggage, or in hold luggage? Hand-baggage
X-rays are generally safe enough (I've had no problem even with Delta3200
etc), but there is a new breed of high-intensity hold luggage scanners
which will trash film. The operator is able to adjust intensity to see
through your collection of Kalashnikovs, porn and Class A drugs, just to
ruin your snaps.
