It's not really an upgrade.  The LS-1000 can only read 8-bit data
over the scsi interface, while the SCSI Scan Dual (not Scan Dual II)
can read 10-bit data.  In addition, the Scan Dual can do single-pass
multi-scanning with VueScan.
