I am inclined to agree with that.
My colleague and I rather felt that the demonstrator was attempting to cover
up something. Mind you this was a March phot show in the UK which is
probably not Nikon's largest market and they would appear not to have an
actual production model out on the street yet.

The latest in the UK is that delivery is now set for late April and assuming
that the dealer/wholeseller have already earmarked their high priority
customers I suspect that the actual retail trade may not see any real volume
until June/July.
Bad news for me as I am sitting on a Canon EOS 3 film camera and rather need
the old film scanner for use with PS 6.0 in order to produce some really,
really tremendous fine art creative image prints.
