[filmscanners] RE: my XP laptop is driving me crazy

There have been a continually increasing number of patches that have come
down the pike since the release of SP-1 (20+ would not surprise me). How
many patches one needs to install in addition to the Service Pack not only
depends on how long a period has elapsed since you downloaded and installed
the SP-1 but also if you installed it or SP-1a. The latter is a newer
version of the Service Pack and includes a number of patches in it that were
not in SP-1 since they came out after SP-1's release during the period
between the release of SP-1 and that of SP-1a. Of course any patches that
have been released since the release of SP-1a would have to be downloaded
and installed individually from the Microsoft site.

Ops,

I've just bought a new laptop with XP Pro, and after updating with SP1 from
MS Win update site, there were still 20 more critical patches to be
downloaded.

There were a couple of XP patches but not 10.
SP1 addressed the security issues. Are you downloading the XP patches
directly from Microsoft site?
