[filmscanners] RE: SS4000--need help troubleshooting

I'm not sure how things work in W2K or XP but in W98SE I can turn on my
SS4000 and then when it is ready I right-click the "My Computer"  icon,
left-click on "Properties", left-click on "Device Manager", then left-click
on "Refresh". After a few seconds the scanner appears in the device list.
Left-click "Ok" and I'm in business without having to re-boot.

You should have the same or similar ability in W2K and WXP.

When I first installed my Nikon LS2000 scanner I could turn it on and off
at will and Windows 2000 knew the scanner was there, then one day I turned
on the scanner and Nikon Scan software could not find any active devices,
now I have to boot the computer with the scanner on and initialized before
Win 2K will recognize it.
