[filmscanners] Polaroid SprintScan 120 discontinued

I haven't seen this discussed here, so I presume this is a fairly new
development...

I've been considering purchasing the SS120, with the glass film holder
(which seemed to be generally recommended by folks scanning MF film). I
noticed that B&H Photo had the holder listed as "out of stock," but would
notify me when it came in. Well, I got a message back saying that it would
*not* be restocked. This piqued my curiosity, and I called Polaroid.

They said that if I wanted the glass holder, I should order as soon as
possible -- there wouldn't be any more manufactured. And when I asked about
the scanner itself, the (very pleasant) salesperson admitted that the
scanner, too, would be discontinued. This was due to competition,
presumably from the Nikon, Minolta, and perhaps Imacon.

So if anyone's thinking of purchasing the scanner (or the glass holder!),
they should do so now -- it may not be available later.

B&H (bhphoto.com) has an amazing price on the scanner -- $1900. This is
about 2/3 of what the Nikon and Minolta sell for!
