[filmscanners] Re: Digital Darkroom Computer Builders?

Paul,

I too liked the Matrox cards, having had a G200, 400, and 550. But, having
just been given some spare cash, I bought a Formac 20" Gallery DVI monitor
(stunning). Although the Matrox G550 has a DVI output, hardware timing
problems apparently prevent any Matrox card (even the new Parhelia) working
with the Formac Gallery or Apple Cinema flat panel displays. You have to use
nVidia or ATI Radeon cards. I bought an MSI TiGe4600-VTD (more likely to fit
into my MSI motherboard) and it works beautifully. My 'old' Mitsubishi 21"
Diamond Pro seems like a dinosaur by comparison.

It was either buy a digital camera (S2) or the Formac monitor. I think I
made the right decision.

Bob Frost.

 Personally, I
like the Matrox cards--my G450 does 2048x1536 at 72Hz, and it has no DAC
glitches. The Millenium G450 can support dual monitors (only one color
managed, though), and the G550 can support digitial displays.
