Tony, thank you for that link - I have been looking through the blob and it
sounds really promising. In the next day or two I will have a closer look
and get my hands on it...

Have a look also at IMatch (www.photools.com). Pretty cheap at about $50 and
has quite good offline image management facilities. I haven't yet started
using archive software but this is probably the one I will go with. I
especially like the fact that the data is in an open format and easily
exportable.
