Geoff,
I think it is important to note Polaroid has fulfilled every obligation to
its customer through this period despite initial predictions of doom. We
still introduced software upgrades, introduced new products, fulfilled every
rebate obligation, continued technical support, and continued to honor
warrantees. If all you knew is how Polaroid supported their products and
customers I doubt you would have thought there were any financial problems.
While Polaroid will certainly change from what is was last year and the year
before, I am sure it will be around for a considerable while.
I guess you have seen Tony's response to the ICE issue.
David

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply, I am aiming to try and purchase a medium
format scanner towards the end of this year if the funds allow. At the
moment the choice is between the Polaroid and the Minolta. The only negative
aspects I can see with the Polaroid is the insecurity of the company itself
although as more and more time goes by I imagine things may be improving,
and the lack of Ice. Is Ice in the future of the SS120?

Regards

Geoff,
The SS120 compares favorably with the Precision II. Ian Lyons did a
comparison and posted on his web site. I have talked to several customers
who have evaluated both . The consensus is the Precision II is better but
only by a narrow margin and it is 2 or 3 times the price. Imacon's software
is very good, on the same level as Silverfast but some find the film carrier
a pain for 35mm. Personally I feel pretty good to be in the same ballpark as
the Precision at 2 or 3 times the price.

Hi David,

That prompts the question, how does the Imacon compare to the Polaroid
SS120? Bearing in mind that there is still a significant price difference
and that you are allowed to be a fraction biased.... :-)

Geoff

I own a Flextight and called Imacon Tech support to find out if sharpening
was shut of at 0. They told me it was not, I asked why and they told me the
programmers thought "everyone" would want some sharpening. I confirmed this
with Andrew Rodney.
