Firewire and Windows98 with apologies if this is old news:

This URL may help, it leads to a patch named 242975USA8.EXE (583KB) to update
Win98SE for firewire:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/1394/
Default.asp

Nikon, I believe, have found that by applying that patch their firewire 8000
filmscanner works with Win98se. This is their reference to a pdf giving a FW
installation guide:

www.nikontechusa.com/PDF/IEEE1394Rm.pdf

or Google's link in html:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cache:4MziGSCZZkoC:www.nikontechusa.com/PDF/IEEE1394Rm.pdf+242975USA8.EXE+microsoft&hl=en

I have not tried this patch as I was investigating for a friend with a Minolta
Scan Multi Pro (reviewed: http://www.imaging-resource.com/SCAN/DSMP/DSMA.HTM) -
but that's still on back order.

Lastly, this faq 1024 from Minolta USA:
http://www.minoltausa.com/eprise/main/MinoltaUSA/MUSAContent/CPG/CPG_Faqs/CPG_FaqDetail/Faq1024
says that this combination is compatible, istr.

Regards,
Nigel.
