Hi Paul,

There are a few people on this list who use the Canon FS4000, so 
hopefully someone will come to your aid soon.

Your do have another option in a 4000 dpi 35mm scanner under $1000 US. 
That is the Polaroid SS4000, which is being offered in the $500-700 US 
range after rebate.  Although it does not have a dust removal IR 
channel, the scans tend to de-emphasize dust due to the lighting system. 
  Many people who own them will be able to tell you their pleasure with 
the product.

They are probably becoming in short supply, as a product is in the works 
to replace it. The SS4000 uses a SCSI interface.
