Have you measured the light intensity of the raw Nikon LEDs, and compared
this to the intensity of the filtered light from a conventional scanner? It
would seem that the LED light source can be two to three stops less bright
than a conventional lightsource (before filtration) and still supply the
same illumination level to the CCD's.
