Windows has a standard way of turning the button polling on
and off, but Mac OS doesn't.

Yes, FireWire is next.  The code is structured in such a way that
adding FireWire support shouldn't take more than 100 lines of code.

Yes.

Yes, this will be a problem as well.  Most of
the USB routines I'm using aren't supported
on Mac OS X.
