Forensic Investigator
Ontario, Canada Public Service is looking for a Forensic Investigator; temporary, irregular on-call (up to 12 months).
Your strong communication skills and knowledge of the criminal justice system are required for this opportunity with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the civilian agency that conducts investigations into the circumstances of serious injuries/deaths involving police officers.

What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will collect, preserve, package and examine physical evidence associated with incident scenes in support of the Special Investigation Unit's forensic identification program.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory:
- you must have a valid Class G Ontario driver's licence to travel to investigation sites across Ontario
- you must have current Ontario Police College Forensic Identification Certification
Knowledge:
- you have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation governing the response of the SIU (e.g. Criminal Code of Canada, Canada Evidence Act, Coroner's Act, Police Services Act of Ontario) to work with the investigator in planning investigations and initiatives
- you have knowledge and understanding of forensic identification theories, principles and practices
- you have proven knowledge of laboratory testing techniques and procedures and the use of chemical substances and equipment relevant to forensic identification to collect, preserve, package and examine physical evidence
Skills:
- you have excellent research skills
- you have effective oral and written communication and team leadership skills to provide direction, liaise with colleagues, make presentations and prepare reports
- you have the demonstrated ability to be sympathetic, tolerant, patient and sensitive to the needs of persons involved in the investigative process

- The successful candidate will be required to undergo a satisfactory criminal reference check prior to the commencement of employment.
