Primary Purpose

Serve as a Forensic Examiner to perform all types of fingerprint examinations; stays abreast of the latest research to determine the best analytical methods to examine evidence; conducts examinations of highly complex and unique evidence; and composes a variety of reports. Initiates, performs and oversees examinations of a wide-variety of materials using one or more specialized forensic science techniques, including use of an Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) and related image enhancement tools.

Essential Job Functions

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Sciences, Physical Sciences, or related field and ten years of job related experience. Must have extensive experience conducting scientific research and adapting/developing technical procedures to improve examinations. Must have experience in oral and written communication sufficient to present results of analyses and/or other technical material to peers, adjudicating authorities and/or other client approved entities. Must have experience in the use of Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) for searching and comparing latent prints and known impressions, to include use of Department of Defense (DoD) Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Integrated Automated Identification Fingerprint System (IAFIS) and the Universal Latent Workstation (ULW), and /or Department of Homeland Security IDENT system; experience using related image enhancement tools/systems. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; preference will be given to those who currently hold an Active Secret or higher security clearance For OCONUS work, must be able to pass DoD physical health screening requirements. Work locations include Charleston, SC, Washington, D.C. area, and OCONUS.
