Job Description
The Police Department has an immediate opening for an experienced Latent Fingerprint Examiner.
Key duties include conducting detailed manual comparison of latent prints utilizing valid scientific techniques; establish identity and non-identity; conduct final analyses; process physical evidence for fingerprints; develop and prepare related final reports and/or court testimony on processes and procedures in latent print development and related procedures.
Skills / Requirements
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
Associates degree or sixty college semester hours, plus two years job-related experience and successful completion of a recognized course of studies in the science of fingerprint comparison.
OR
High school diploma or equivalent, plus four years job-related experience and successful completion of a recognized course of studies in the science of fingerprint comparison.
Examples of job related experience include:
- AFIS ten-print/latent work
- Crime scene processing
- Crime scene photography
- Criminal investigation
Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel computer skills are required.
Other Requirements
We prefer a bachelors degree plus at least one (1) year of experience in fingerprint comparison including demonstrated ability to provide expert testimony in law courts and International Association of Identification (IAI) training or certification.
Preference will be given to those who are currently International Association of Identification (IAI) certified and have five (5) or more years of experience as a fully qualified latent print examiner including at least one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
Misc. Requirements
License and Certification: Possession of an International Association of Identification (IAI) certification is desired.
Working Conditions
Environmental Conditions: Office environment; exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Physical Conditions: Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; light lifting or carrying; operating assigned equipment; the ability to distinguish color; ability to speak and communicate clearly.
